Expansión: CNMC faces BBVA-Sabadell case amid internal changes

The situation is particularly complex for BBVA, according to Thomas Nienaber, managing director of the arbitration advisory firm MKP Advisors. The environment “has just become more complicated and possibly more politicized,” he warns, which has repercussions on the market’s perception of the takeover bid.
“Investors don’t like uncertainty and have just received another dose of it. The timeline is likely to be extended even further and cloud the outlook for longer,” explains Nienaber, who anticipates that the turbulent context could extend beyond March 2025, when BBVA will face its own process of renewing its board members.
